Young Dems Endorse Annie Rice for 8th Ward Alderman
ST. LOUIS YOUNG DEMOCRATS ENDORSE ANNIE RICE FOR 8TH WARD ALDERMAN
ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Young Democrats have endorsed Annie Rice for 8th Ward Alderman. The Young Democrats Executive Board is excited by Rice’s experience as an immigration attorney and her work advocating for social justice. We believe her service as Democratic Committeewoman will allow her to effectively serve the residents of the 8th Ward.
St. Louis Young Democrats members met on Tuesday, January 9 for a candidate forum during which two candidates seeking the endorsement, Annie Rice and Paul Fehler, discussed their backgrounds and answered questions from members about what they would do to help improve the city of St. Louis. To receive the endorsement, candidates were required to complete a questionnaire and receive over 50 percent of the general membership vote.
It has been the policy for the St. Louis Young Democrats to make our endorsement available to independent candidates who identity as Democrats in cases where there is no primary before the general election. For this particular race, the St. Louis Young Democrats invited the Democratic candidate, Paul Fehler, and the declared independent candidate, Annie Rice, to seek the organization’s endorsement. Since the 8th Ward Aldermanic race is a special election, there was no primary election for voters to select the Democratic candidate. Rather, the St. Louis City Democratic Central Committee selected the Democratic candidate. In order to maximize transparency and education for our members, all candidates who self-identified as Democrats were able to seek endorsement.
Following the forum, 53 St. Louis Young Democrats members voted in the aldermanic endorsement process.
The results are below: Annie Rice, Independent: 84.9% Paul Fehler, Democrat: 11.3% No Endorsement: 3.8%
St. Louis Young Democrats Endorsement An endorsement from the St. Louis Young Democrats indicates that a candidate's record, performance in office, or promise of future relations meets the standards set forth by the organization’s members. The St. Louis Young Democrats will participate in a canvassing event for Annie Rice and will utilize social media to encourage their members and followers to vote for her.
