St. Louis Young Democrats’ statement on Gov. Eric Greitens’ resignation

ST. LOUIS — The Executive Board of the St. Louis Young Democrats is relieved that Gov. Eric Greitens has finally resigned. It is unfortunate that rape allegations — deemed credible by a bipartisan committee — were not enough for the governor to resign; it appears he only stepped aside to protect his dark money donors. Missourians deserve better than this.

From sexual assault to blackmail to dodging open records laws to stealing from a veterans’ charity to lying to the Missouri Ethics Commission, we are hopeful that Gov. Greitens’ resignation will not be the only consequence he will face for his actions. Investigations into his corruption should continue.

Despite the governor’s resignation, we believe our state still faces serious challenges. The St. Louis Young Democrats remain committed to fighting for Missourians access to health care, reproductive rights, education, and economic development.
